What do you call these People?
What do you call people who are on call 24-hours a day, who get out of bed in the middle of the night to help find a place to sleep for a family whose house has been destroyed by fire? These people respond to more than 110 fires a year – and they don’t get paid a dime for their trouble.
What do you call people who take the time every few months to give away one of the most precious gifts: blood? Then there is also that group of people who take the time to help at the drives where you donate that precious gift.
What do you call people who show up to teach local people how to save a life and others who provide services to the members of our Armed Forces and their families, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, with no compensation?
What do you call people who travel hundreds of miles and stay for three weeks to help strangers recover from the devastation of hurricanes or floods that have ripped through their communities? What do you call the people who helped to prepare and train those going on disaster assignment?
You call them American Red Cross Volunteers. Here at the Oregon Mountain River Chapter a group of special people are actively doing all of the tasks described above.
Volunteers are the heart and the hands of the American Red Cross in this community.
April 21-27 is National Volunteer Week, a time to thank the 1200+ people who served our community this year through volunteering with the American Red Cross. The theme of National Volunteer Week is “Inspire by Example” and that is just what Red Cross volunteers do. To all those who have volunteered we offer our sincerest thanks.
If you have been inspired by these volunteers, the Oregon Mountain River Chapter needs people from throughout the community, of all ages and skills. Right now, we would especially need people to work in the office to help with filing and general office work. To become a part of our team of people helping other people, simply contact Meg at the Oregon Mountain River Chapter.
